SMARTBoards and the Balloon Pop

The Balloon Pop flash object contained in the Smart Notebook Gallery is a fun little tool to reveal information. When students touch the balloon on the Smart Board, the balloon makes a popping noise and then reveals whatever is sitting behind the balloon.

Here's a video tutorial that shows how to add the Balloon Pop object from the Gallery, edit the text that's displayed on the balloon, and place other objects on the page to work with the Balloon Pop objects.

If you are unable to view the video, try viewing it here.

You may need to update your Smart Notebook software and the Lesson Activity Toolkit to make sure the Balloon Pop object is up to date.

Here's the file I used in the video. It's best to use the Firefox browser or the Chrome browser when opening Notebook files. If you are using Internet Explorer or Safari, you may need to save your file first and make sure the file extension is .notebook. If it isn't, you'll need to rename the file with the correct extension before opening.

Thanks so much for this tutorial! Do you know if there is a way to enlarge the font size that appears on the balloon before it is popped?

  2. There is no way to enlarge the font but you can place an object on top of the balloon. When the balloon is popped it will reveal what’s behind the balloon and the object on top of the balloon will remain on the screen since it’s not part of the balloon object. Be very careful with placing text objects over the balloon object. Sometime very strange things will happen.

I love the tutorial! I’ve put text behind the balloon, but when the balloon pops… no text. Any suggestions?
