What I found was an amazing site called 10×10 that displays a 10×10 grid containing 100 thumbnail images that relate to the most discussed current events. The sight stays up-to-date by scanning the RSS feeds of major international news sources. When the user selects one of the current events, the site displays a window containing links to the actual articles for more information.
Utilizing this site on the SMART Board is a great way to begin short class discussions or provide the teacher and/or students with an engaging interactive tool. This site takes advantage of a hovering mouse. This means that as you move the mouse over the images or the titles, the title of the current event and its position ranking from 1 to 100 will be highlighted. This is great if you’re using your computer but you can’t drag your finger over a SMART Board to do the same thing! Or can you?
For a real cool way of using your finger like a hovering mouse on a SMART Board, you can view the step-by-step video instructions from another blog post I wrote called SMART Boards and the Floating Mouse.
Please leave a comment if you have a good idea of how to use the 10×10 site in the classroom.
