This course will guide participants in creating an interactive application for the SMART Board using Smart Notebook 10 that allows the user to touch a button to reveal individual steps in a multi-step process.
This course is self-paced and teachers can take as long as they need to complete the course objectives. Upon completion, teachers receive a Certificate of Completion for 90 minutes of Professional Development credit.
Mr. Vizza has created a collection of Smart Notebook files to support various chapters of the Algebra Two text book. In addition, he’s made available an amazing library of Mathematical Notebook Galleries containing images, pages, and even a few flash animations! My favorite one is definitely the Formula Gallery.

I recently sent a message to Danny Nicholson over at The Whiteboard Blog about the Teacher LED website to see if he had seen the site or knew the author. The author is a teacher from the UK named Spencer Riley and he has created an outstanding collection of resources perfect for the SMARTBoard interactive resources.
I have three sites related to Mathematics that work great on your SMARTBoard Interactive Whiteboard. These sites get my official “WOW” and they need to be in every teacher’s arsenal of resources.
Teachers Love SMART Boards is about sharing resources and ideas. One reason the SMARTBoard and the Smart Notebook application are such great tools is that it helps inspire ways of making learning come alive. When teachers share ideas, that idea gets added to the knowledge-base and other teachers can build upon that knowledge to create something even more engaging and powerful.
Here’s a wonderful idea of how to incorporate Art and Mathematics shared by Valerie Byrnes. In her video, she is creating an original piece of “Jackson Pollock” art work from the JacksonPollock.org website. She then takes the picture and builds on the concept of acute angles.
I have two wonderful tools for teachers to use with their Smartboard interactive whiteboard related to plotting points.
Why not have the Set Game displayed on the SMART Board for kids to solve before they start class. This would motivate kids to get into class on time. You could even have a Set Game contest or challenge students to beat your best time.
The Set Daily Puzzle is very easy to use on the SMART Board and it has a different puzzle each day. Here’s a screen shot:
I love fun and creative ways to introduce math concepts to kids. I just spent the last 30 minutes playing around with a Middle School (grades 5 thru 8) math site called Villainy, Inc. that lets kids play a game to learn about various mathematical concepts. The site is very well organized, it has a standards guide, and it has a very good teacher guide. I think this would be a fun way for the kids to spend a Friday afternoon. The site would be great for kids working in pairs in the computer lab or teacher could guide the class and play these games on the SMART Board. The kids will love working together to help thwart world supremacy.
I have a wonderful wiki site for Math teachers (or any teacher interested in innovative teaching and learning methods). The site is called Math247 Wiki and it contains an extensive library of Mathcasts and instructions for creating your own Mathcast with your students.
