I need to get back to work…I’ve been playing around with some outstanding educational math games for kids aged 7 to 12. The site is called Wicked and it contains wonderful flash-based games for improving your students’ Math skills. Best of all, these interactive games work great with your SMART Board interactive whiteboard.
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is such a perfect tool for displaying and interacting with all the digital media that is quickly being introduced on the Internet. The tools that are used to create engaging interactive simulations are becoming easier to use; as a result, more and more companies and individuals are creating interactive simulation models to help improve learning.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to talk technology integration with Dave Sladkey and Scott Miller from Naperville Central HS in Naperville, IL. Dave and Scott are the creators of the new video podcast Teaching With SMARTBoard. We had a lively discussion and I was impressed with how they were using technology to engage the students.
Often times we need to look inside new, successful, innovative programs to help provide the stimulus for action. Forest Trail Middle School in Illinois has developed state-of-the-art math labs that provide teachers and students with a wide range of tools, including SMART Boards, that help “broaden instructional possibilities.”
Good morning! Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been away for a week. I’ve been working on some big projects and decided to take a week off from my blog. This was such a mistake! I miss perusing the Internet for great resources for your SMART Board.
Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of great SMART Board resources being shared through blogs like Teachers Love SMART Boards.
While browsing around the SMART Exchange forum, I ran across a post entitled Notebook lessons for Elementary and Middle School Mathematics. In this post, Harvey shares his wonderful website that contains (among many things) a list of math Notebook lessons. Harvey does a great job describing his lessons and he even includes a screen shot so you can get a better feel for the lesson’s content.
The site is called A Maths Dictionary for Kids 2007 created by Jenny Eather. What’s great about this site is how thorough it is. Moreover, many definitions include interactions (perfect for the Smartboard) to reinforce the material and make it easier to understand. What a wonderful way to introduce new math concepts!
I would like to show you two videos. The first video demonstrates how I used the SMART Board interactive whiteboard to record a Sketchcast that describes how to do a math problem. The second video is the actual Sketchcast video that was created during the first video.
Here’s a great example of “Sharing is Caring” provided by Danny on the Teachers Love SMART Boards forum. The site is called Subtangent Math and it’s packed full of outstanding math resources for your Smartboard interactive whiteboard.
I ran across a great article about math and Smartboards that I thought I would share with everyone.
